Engineering Branches
There are many different branches of engineering. The main branches of
engineering are computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering
and Mechanical Engineering.
Civil Engineering: One of
the core engineering streams, it is related with study of infrastructure and
construction of bridges, roads, dams, canals and buildings as well as their
maintenance. If your dad’s a builder and you still want to study a bit, then
this is probably one good option for you. Civil engineers plans and designs bridges
and tunnels, as well as highways, airfields, harbors, water and sewage systems,
and buildings. They also supervise the construction of such projects to ensure
that they are built according to carefully drafted plans. Thus they can expect
to get jobs in companies that specialize in these functions, like L&T, etc.
Computer Science Engineering: Coding
comprises a huge part of this course. So if you love programming and if your
eyes don’t start watering when you spend a good amount of time on the computer,
you can go for it. Also involves the hardware part of the computer. One of
in-demand courses. Great job prospects. Most students get placed, regardless of
college. A computer engineer continues doing what he’s been doing for years,
i.e. - coding! Expect IT companies like Accenture, TCS, Infosys and Wipro to
visit your college.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering: If you like wires and playing with circuits
go for the electronics branch. Electronics engineering involves the design and
testing of electronic circuits that use the properties of components such as
resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes and transistors to achieve a
particular functionality. You will be taught the basics of microprocessors,
microcontrollers, their circuits, and working of the insides of a very basic
level computer. You will also be given an introduction to robotics. Core
companies like Philips offer technical job profiles to candidates. Job
structure involves synthesizing Integrated Circuits (ICs) maintenance, repair,
and development of electronic devices or appliances like televisions,
refrigerators, air conditioners, etc. No, it is NOT what electricians do!
Mechanical Engineering: It can be referred to as the mother of all
branches in engineering. Involves a lot of technical drawing and must be opted
only if you are sure that you don’t mind spending majority of your time in
drawing and other related calculations. Complicated physics comprises a major
part of the curriculum. Basics of automobiles are also included as a part of
this course. A lot of core mechanical companies, including Larsen and Toubro,
Godrej offer highly technical job profiles. Students are expected to have a
good knowledge of what they’ve studied in the past 4 years.
Admission Procedure
The state government has decided to admit students
to engineering Colleges of MP through Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Mains) conducted
at All India level by CBSE.
The admission procedure is conducted in three
phases:
The dates of Round 1 & Round 2 are announced by
the DTE in leading Newspapers of the state
B.Tech. (BACHELOR OF
ENGINEERING) (ADMISSIONS)
The candidate should report to the Institute along
with following original documents, two photographs and two sets of attested
photocopies of all the documents, for the registration:
M.E. / M.TECH (MASTER OF ENGINEERING/MASTER OF
TECHNOLOGY) FULL TIME ADMISSIONS
The candidate should report to the Institute along
with following original documents, two photographs and two sets of attested
photocopies of all the documents, for the registration:
